2011 US Amateur at Erin Hills
10 local Chicago golfers will be in the field this week for the 2011 US Amateur Golf Championship at Erin Hills in Wisconsin. The 111th US Amateur Championship will take place from Monday, August 22 until Sunday, August 28 and will begin with a field 312 amateur golfers.
The tournament will feature many of the top players from the recent Western Amateur Golf Championship at North Shore Country Club. Peter Uihlein will be back to defend the title that he won at last year at Chambers Bay. Joining Uihlein will be top players such as Patrick Cantlay, Russell Henley, David Chung, Tom Lewis and Scott Langley.
The 2011 US Amateur Golf Championship begins Monday and Tuesday with 18 holes of stroke-play qualifying at Erin Hills and Blue Mound. Wednesday through Sunday will feature the match-play rounds, all at Erin Hills.
Admission and parking are free, so Chicago golf fans may want to consider making the drive to Erin Hills, which will also be hosting the 2017 US Open Championship. Erin Hills is approximately a two hour drive from downtown Chicago.
