There may be a professional golf tour event in Chicago in 2012 after all. The Canadian PGA Tour is in talks for a proposed Canadian Tour event at the Royal Country Club of Long Grove (formerly Hillcrest CC) September 10th – 16th of 2012.
This would be great news for Chicago golf fans who were going to be without a regular professional golf tour event in 2012 – not including the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah. The event would bring the top 120 players from north of the border on the Canadian Tour to Chicago.
The Chicago golf event could also be unique in that it would be a Pro-Am. Amateurs would have the chance to partner with a Canadian Tour professional and experience a week inside the ropes, rubbing elbows with Canadian Tour players and attending exclusive events.
Each Canadian Tour professional would partner with an amateur contestant for three days of play, at which point the field would be cut to the low 60 professionals and 20 teams for play on Sunday. Entries would be available for $3,500 and include three days of tournament play with a Canadian Tour professional as your partner and the chance to advance to the final round on Sunday, September 16.
Canadian Tour alumni have won over $400 million in career earnings and have over 100 PGA Tour wins. Canadian Tour graduates are among the top-ranked players in the world including Steve Stricker, Mike Weir, Paul Casey, Stuart Appleby, Tim Clark, Matt Kuchar, D.A. Points, Nick Watney and Stephen Ames. Over the past five years alone, the Canadian Tour has graduated an average of 14 players annually to the Nationwide Tour and the PGA Tour, more than any single golf circuit in the world.
All ticket proceeds for the Chicago golf event would be donated to charity. More information about the event should be confirmed within the next month.
