Inside the Ryder Cup – A Chairman’s Reception
Get ready for the biggest professional sporting event in Chicago’s history by attending Inside the Ryder Cup – A Chairman’s Reception on September 25 at the Yorktown Shopping Center. Take part in this once-in-a-lifetime celebration of the 2012 Ryder Cup at the beautiful Westin Lombard. Inside the Ryder Cup – a Chairman’s Reception will feature former Ryder Cup participant Peter Jacobsen and will honor Joe Steranka, chief executive officer of PGA of America who will be leaving the position at the end of the year.
Peter Jacobsen will provide guests with a rare behind-the scenes look at the biggest team event in golf while guests will have access to unique PGA auction items, including a Team USA Golf Bag signed by USA Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III and two tickets to the Ryder Cup Gala, which takes place on September 26. The event will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Joe Steranka has been PGA’s CEO for the past 6 1/2 years. He started at the PGA of America in 1988 as director of communications and became CEO in November 2005. The PGA of America serves 27,000 PGA club professionals and runs major golf events that include the PGA Championship, the Ryder Cup, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf and the Senior PGA Championship.
A broadcast executive for 18 years with The PGA of America before he was appointed to replace Jim Awtrey in 2005 as chief executive, Joe Steranka graduated from West Virginia with a degree in journalism. He’s indicated that he’s looking for a new challenge away from the PGA of America while he is still young.
