Saint Xavier University Golf Teams Coming Soon

Saint Xavier University Golf Teams Coming SoonCollege golf is coming to the south side of Chicago with the recent announcement that Saint Xavier University has hired PGA professional Mike Mandakas as head coach of their newly formed men’s and women’s golf teams. The new Saint Xavier University golf teams will begin this fall for the 2012-13 academic year.

Saint Xavier University was founded in 1846 and is located at 103rd Street and Central Park Avenue in Chicago. It is the oldest chartered College in the city of Chicago.

Coach Mike Mandakas has over 10 years of experience as a Golf Professional, with experience working at Chicago golf courses such as Olympia Fields Country Club and Medinah Country Club. He currently owns and manages The Players Club of Chicago golf learning center on 79th Street in Justice.

“As a PGA Professional, I am extremely honored and excited to be given the opportunity to lead the men’s and women’s golf teams at Saint Xavier University,” said Mandakas. “The addition of these two programs at this highly respected university will add value to an existing tradition of graduating student-athletes and winning teams. My goal is to bring in talented athletes, who will build successful golf programs, while receiving an excellent education.”

“We are extremely pleased to announce Mike Mandakas as Saint Xavier’s new head golf coach,” said SXU Athletics Director Bob Hallberg. “Mike came in with impressive credentials and we want the golf programs to follow the same tradition of excellence that our current teams maintain. I think he will do a great job of building teams that compete well in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference and NAIA.”

Recruiting for the Saint Xavier University golf teams will start immediately. The NAIA National Championships for both teams take place annually in May. If you are interested in playing golf at Saint Xavier University, you can contact Coach Mandakas via e-mail at mikem@tpcchicago.com
