{"id":19771,"date":"2020-08-29T02:48:11","date_gmt":"2020-08-29T08:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chicagogolfreport.com\/listing\/illinois-flagg-creek-golf-course\/"},"modified":"2021-01-24T20:37:36","modified_gmt":"2021-01-25T02:37:36","slug":"illinois-flagg-creek-golf-course","status":"publish","type":"listing","link":"https:\/\/www.chicagogolfreport.com\/directory\/listing\/illinois-flagg-creek-golf-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Flagg Creek Golf Course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ranked one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagogolfreport.com\/chicagos-top-10-nine-hole-courses\/\">Chicago\u2019s Top-10 Nine Hole Golf Courses<\/a>, Flagg Creek Golf Course is a nine-hole, par 33 course featuring bentgrass greens and three sets of tees and is conveniently located near the intersections of I-55 and I-294 in Countryside, Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>In the early 1920\u2019s the Robert Henry family developed the current Flagg Creek Gold Course property into an 18 hole golf course named Maple Crest.  But in the mid 50\u2019s the Illinois Toll Road Authority began construction on the Tri State Tollway reducing the size of the golf course down to just twelve holes \u2014 the only 12 hole golf course in the Chicagoland area.  The late 80\u2019s brought more changes to the area and there was a push by developers to purchase the golf course and convert it to a condominium\/retail development.  With community pushback, the property was purchased by the Pleasant Dale Park District and the City of Countryside.<\/p>\n<p>Designer Greg Martin plowed under all of Maple Crest\u2019s 12 holes and came up with new 9 hole layout that opened on July 2, 1993.  Martin\u2019s design philosophy for the new Flagg Creek was a course that is suitable for players of all levels. There are no forced carries to scare juniors, women and seniors, but there are risks that the low handicapper can take. The course has four par-4s including the 403 yard ninth, four par-3s and the fifth hole a tricky 466 yard par-5.<\/p>\n<p>Flagg Creek\u2019s clubhouse includes the pro hop, and bar and grill, which is open daily throughout the golf season and with limited hours during off-season; the walk-out deck affords relaxed outdoor dining.
