Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Illinois features four 18-hole golf courses that are open to the public.<\/p>\n
Illinois Golf Hall of Famer Joe Jemsek earned the nickname the “father of public golf” in large part due to the creation of Cog Hill’s fourth golf course – known as Dubsdread. Before Dubsdread’s debut in 1964, public golf courses were often considered less challenging, not as well-maintained and less aesthetically pleasing than their private course counterparts.<\/p>\n
Joe Jemsek purchased the 36-hole Cog Hill complex in the early 1950s. In 1963, he added Cog Hill’s third layout and then in 1964, built Cog Hill’s fourth – known as Dubsdread.<\/p>\n
Dubsdread is the #4 course at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, IL. It\u2019s also the former host of the BMW Championship<\/a> and the Western Open<\/a> on the PGA Tour, following an extended stay at Butler National Golf Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n Jemsek had believed Chicago’s public golfers were ready to support an upscale daily-fee course that as was as challenging, well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing as any public layout. His intuition proved correct as Dubsdread was quickly recognized as one of the top 18-hole courses in the country – public or private.
