SUMMARY:Illinois State Amateur Championship
DESCRIPTION:The Illinois State Amateur Championship will take place July 19-21\, 2022 at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette\, Illinois. Many prominent professionals and amateurs have played at Westmoreland Country Club including Bobby Jones\, Chick Evans\, Frances Ouiment\, Walter Hagan and Jock Hutchison. \nThe 2021 event was won in a four hole playoff by Ethan Farnam of Crystal Lake. This was the second consecutive victory for Farnam in the Illinois State Amateur Championship. \nThe Illinois State Amateur Championship is conducted by the Chicago District Golf Association and is the most prestigious amateur golf tournament in the state of Illinois. The event was first played in 1931 at Quincy Country Club and was initially conducted as match play until 1963. the event is now a 72-hole stroke play competition contested over three days. \nSince the Championship was first conducted at stroke play\, 46 different golfers have hoisted the Louis L. Emmerson trophy\, several of which are current or former members of the PGA Tour. Crystal Lake native and Saint Mary’s College golfer Ethan Farnam held on to capture the 2019 title at Cantigny Golf. The event was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. \nAny Illinois resident with an official USGA Handicap Index of 7.4 or below was eligible to sign up for one of eight qualifiers conducted throughout the entirety of Illinois. In total\, 104 individuals advanced from these qualifiers\, with the remaining 28 spots going to players who were exempt due to past performances in the State Am and other CDGA-administered tournaments. \nPast champions include:\n• Jim Frisina Sr. (1942\, ‘47\, ‘54\, ‘56\, ‘58 champ)\no 13x U.S. Amateur qualifier\n• Gary Hallberg (1978 and ‘79 champ)\no 3x PGA Tour winner\n• Joel Hirsch (1988 and ‘89 champ)\no 2x Senior British Amateur winner\n• Jerry Haas (1982 and ‘84 champ)\no 8 professional victories\n• Mark Hensby (1994 champ)\no 6 professional victories\n• D.A. SUMMARY:Phil Kosin Illinois Women's Open
DESCRIPTION:The 27th Phil Kosin Illinois Women’s Open will take place Monday\, July 25th and Tuesday\, July 26th 2022 at Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville.  \nThe Illinois Women’s Open was the vision of the late Phil Kosin\, who believed that Illinois needed a women’s state championship. Kosin’s passion for golf radiated throughout the pages of his Chicagoland Golf newspaper\, on his blog\, and over radio waves as host of a radio show on 670 The Score. Kosin was passionate about the game and dedicated himself towards the tournament for 15 years. \n36 hole Championship held on Monday\, July 25 and Tuesday\, July 26. There will be no cut in between rounds and players will be repaired after the completion of round 1. \nEntries are open to all female professionals\, and all female amateurs with a current USGA Handicap Index of 15.0 or less. Contestants must be 17 years of age. \nThe inaugural trophy was won by Diane Daugherty\, Carbondale. Burr Ridge amateur Kerry Postillion won back-to-back championships in 1996\, 1997\, and a third in 1999. Nicole Jeray won in 1998 and 2003\, amateur Emily Gilley\, Flossmoor won in 2000 and 2001\, with Naperville pro Maria Long winning in 2002.
