It may be winter outside, but one junior Chicago golfer is enjoying a successful season so far. The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) recently hosted a two-day, 36-hole event at Harmony Golf Preserve in Harmony, Florida and Daniel Hudson of Western Springs fired rounds of 72 and 70 to win the Boys 15-19 Division by five strokes over James Cresswell of Orwigsburg, PA.
Hudson came from behind to win the tournament, starting the final round five shots behind the leader, Tyler Dierwechter of Oldsmar, Florida, who carded a 3-under-par 69 in the first round. “When I saw that [Dierwechter] came in with a 69, I was surprised because of how tough this course is,” said Hudson. “I knew coming into the final round that I would have to play well and not make any mistakes.”
Hudson started off the final round strong, posting a 3-under-par 33 on the front nine. He ran into some trouble on the tenth hole, carding a double bogey, but made up for it with two more birdies on the back nine. “It feels great to win,” said Hudson, who was playing in his first IJGT event. “This is also my first career win as I had eight second place finishes last year on other tours, and it feels good to finally be the champion.”
The IJGT provides exceptional junior golfers with the opportunity to develop and showcase their competitive skills while setting high standards to preserve the traditions and integrity of the game. As a tour that operates primarily throughout the academic year, the IJGT hosts approximately 60 tournaments annually. Each event provides multi-day competition for junior golfers of all skill levels ages 9-19. Players representing 45 states and 43 countries around the world regularly compete in events at venues such as TPC Sawgrass, Pinehurst, Bethpage State Park, and Harbour Town Golf Links. IJGT alumni include Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan and Paula Creamer.
