Western Junior Championship
June 21 @ 7:00 am - June 24 @ 8:00 pm
The 2021 Western Junior Championship will take place June 21-24 at historic Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest. The Western Junior Championship is the oldest national junior golf championship, has been played in more than 15 states and at several prestigious Chicagoland golf clubs, but never at Onwentsia, which was established in 1895.
“Few golf clubs have the tradition and history of Onwentsia,” said Vince Pellegrino, the WGA’s Senior Vice President of Tournaments. “The club holds a special place in the history of the WGA, and we’re excited to bring this event and a field of the country’s best junior players to Onwentsia.”
The field is limited to 156 entrants. Competition begins with 36 holes of stroke play, after which the field is cut to the low 44 and ties. Those who make the cut will play 36 more holes of stroke play in hopes of winning the Western Junior title.
The top three finishers and ties receive exemptions into the Western Amateur. Past winners include Hunter Mahan, Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa.
