Dominic Lucchesi Betters (his own) School Record

DePaul University freshman golfer, Dominic Lucchesi, recorded an all-time best men’s golf 54-hole total at the recent Butler University Don Benbow Invitational tournament at Highland Golf Country Club in Indianapolis. Lucchesi’s score of 207 (-3) bettered by one stroke his own program record, which he set at the Drake University Zach Johnson Invitational last fall. Lucchesi’s effort at this Butler tournament led to his second place tie individual finish at the 13-team event, which also helped the Blue Demons shoot a season low 840 total for 54-holes and a second place team finish.

In just his second collegiate tournament, back in September 2024, Lucchesi set a record for the best 54-hole competition score in the DePaul men’s golf program, dating back to 1998, with his 208 (-5) total and was named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week. Lucchesi was the first DePaul golfer to earn the honor since March 28, 2019.

Coming up soon for Marty Schiene’s Blue Demon golf squad is the BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship presented by JEEP, which returns to Callawassie Island in Okatie, S.C. The Championship will be held April 26-28. The BIG EAST will crown a team champion, which will gain an automatic berth to the 2025 NCAA Championship.

The individual medalist also receives an NCAA Championship invitation. Play is scheduled to begin Saturday, April 26, at 8 a.m. ET. Saturday’s first-round threesomes will be determined by team seedings, while Sunday’s and Monday’s groupings are assembled from the previous day’s leaderboard. Ten BIG EAST schools participate in men’s golf: Butler, UConn, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Villanova and Xavier.

Good luck to Dominic and the Blue Demons at Callawassie Island.
