Golf Nation, a year-round golf and fitness club in northwest suburban Palatine that earned national acclaim upon its debut in 2008, has closed. Despite attracting over 500 members in its first year, the facility eventually succumbed to a challenging economy and was not able to achieve the sustained growth necessary to survive.
Golf Nation featured a world-class facility offering golf simulators, indoor and outdoor golf practice areas as well as individual and group instruction. Personal training was also offered, and the facility itself was a unique place for parties and meetings.
“Golf Nation has been a labor of love and we positively impacted hundreds of lives, perhaps even helped save some” said co-founder and owner Bob DiMeo. “The golf and fitness along with the friendships built amongst the members was truly special. I’m so proud of our staff and feel blessed we were able to contribute to the community for a meaningful number of years.
“We have an amazing facility and truly offer a combination of golf and fitness that’s only found here” said Golf Nation General Manager Tim Wuhrman. “We were recognized as the best new facility in America and have consistently been ranked a Top 100 practice facility. Add to that our outstanding fitness center and the great social aspect for members and quite frankly it’s unfortunate.”
Prepaid membership dues will be refunded accordingly and a portion of staff retained to facilitate the wind down over the coming months. Any questions should be directed to General Manager Tim Wuhrman at 847-202-4653 or twuhrman@golfnation.us.
