Local DePaul Golfer Named Big East Male Golfer of the Week

The 2024 Zach Johnson Invitational, hosted by Drake University, was held at Glen Oaks Country Club on September 23 and 24 in West Des Moines, Iowa. In what was his second ever collegiate competition, DePaul freshman Dominic Lucchesi golfed a 208 (-5) to take third place individually and helped the DePaul men’s team finish fifth overall. The annual Fall competition included 14 collegiate teams with a total field of seventy golfers.

Firing rounds of 68 (-3) and 69 (-2) during the first day of competition, Lucchesi finished the event with an even par round of 71 on the final day. His second round was highlighted by an eagle on the 11th hole.

Lucchesi set a record for the best 54-hole competition score in the DePaul men’s golf program, dating back to 1998, with his 208 (-5) total and was named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week. Lucchesi is the first DePaul golfer to earn the honor since March 28, 2019.

With a men’s golf roster of nationwide players (AZ, GA, CA) and international players (IRE, ESP), Head Coach Marty Schiene didn’t have to look far to recruit Lucchesi. A native of Grayslake, IL, Dominic played for Grayslake Central High School before entering DePaul University. Lucchesi finished tied for fourth place in the 2023 IHSA Boys 2-A state golf tournament. He just recently qualified for the Illinois Open, held in August at Flossmoor Golf Club.
