PGA TOUR Superstore to Open 30,000-Square-Foot Northbrook Location

Chicago’s North Shore golf community will have a new destination this fall when PGA TOUR Superstore opens a 30,000-square-foot location in Northbrook on Saturday, October 3.

The new store, located at 1072 Willow Road in the Willow Festival Shopping Center, will combine traditional golf retail with club fitting, instruction, practice and an extensive indoor golf technology department.

The Northbrook opening will give PGA TOUR Superstore six locations in Illinois, joining stores in Downers Grove, Lincoln Park, Orland Park, Schaumburg and Vernon Hills.

Doors are scheduled to open at 9 a.m. on October 3, with thousands of dollars in giveaways planned for the first customers in line.

Eight TrackMan Simulators and an Indoor Putting Green

While the 30,000-square-foot store will carry a large assortment of golf equipment, apparel and footwear, a significant portion of the Northbrook location will be devoted to helping golfers test equipment and work on their games.

The store will include eight TrackMan-powered golf simulators that can be used for club fittings, instruction and practice.

An 850-square-foot indoor putting green will provide another practice and fitting area, while golfers will also have access to custom club fitting, same-day Fit & Go services and club repair.

The combination continues a broader shift in golf retail in which stores are becoming places to experience the game rather than simply purchase equipment.

For Chicago golfers, that can be particularly valuable during the winter months, when opportunities to practice outdoors become limited.

A Showroom for Home Golf Simulators

One of the more interesting additions to the Northbrook store will be a dedicated Golf Simulator Showroom.

Rather than focusing on a single simulator system, the showroom is expected to allow golfers to compare several of the leading launch-monitor and home-simulator platforms side by side.

The lineup is scheduled to include technology from Full Swing, Garmin, Rapsodo, SkyTrak, TrackMan and Uneekor.

Store associates will help customers compare systems based on their games, available space and budgets.

The showroom reflects the continued growth of the home golf simulator market and the increasingly important role technology plays in the Chicago golf experience.

Launch monitors that were once primarily found at teaching facilities and professional club-fitting studios are increasingly becoming accessible to recreational golfers. At the same time, golfers are building home simulator spaces that can function as practice facilities during Chicago’s offseason.

Having multiple technologies available in one showroom should give golfers an opportunity to compare the differences without having to rely entirely on online research.

Expanding PGA TOUR Superstore’s Chicago Presence

The Northbrook store also strengthens PGA TOUR Superstore’s already significant presence throughout the Chicago area.

Its existing Illinois locations stretch from Orland Park and Downers Grove in the southwest and western suburbs to Schaumburg, Vernon Hills and Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Northbrook adds another location in the heart of Chicago’s North Shore, one of the region’s most golf-rich areas.

The surrounding communities are home to an extraordinary concentration of public and private golf facilities, making Northbrook a natural market for a store built around equipment, fitting, instruction and year-round practice.

In addition to clubs and golf technology, PGA TOUR Superstore says the Northbrook location will offer a large selection of men’s, women’s and junior golf apparel and footwear, including both performance and golf-lifestyle products.

Northbrook Store Hiring August 19–20

Before the October opening, PGA TOUR Superstore will hold a two-day hiring event to staff the new location.

The job fair is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, and Thursday, August 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel, located at 933 Skokie Boulevard in Northbrook.

Available positions include golf instructors, club fitters, club repair associates, retail sales associates and logistics positions.

The hiring needs also provide an indication of how golf retail has evolved. Employees with expertise in instruction, fitting, repair and technology are increasingly part of the retail experience alongside more traditional sales positions.

With the October opening, North Shore golfers will gain considerably more than another place to buy a new driver or pair of golf shoes. The combination of fitting, instruction, practice space and simulator technology makes the Northbrook store another example of the line between golf retailer, practice facility and indoor golf venue becoming increasingly difficult to define.

And in Chicago, where the outdoor golf season inevitably gives way to winter, that year-round component may ultimately prove to be one of the store’s biggest attractions.
