The Masters Golf Tournament 2021 Preview

MASTERSIn 2021, the Masters will look a bit more familiar than last year’s event. The sights and sounds will once again reflect the history that we’ve witnessed since 1934 when Horton Smith won the inaugural event.

The 2020 tournament was played for the first time in November, seven months after its traditional April setting. There were also be no spectators on the grounds at Augusta National. Also, for the first two rounds, groups will teed off the 1st and 10th holes, which was necessary due to the limited daylight this time of year.

A limited number of patrons will be in attendance this year. They were missed greatly in 2020, providing a much more subdued atmosphere around Augusta.

Based on these changes, who are the favorites to win The Masters in 2021? Save Tiger Woods, nearly all of the top players will be in the field, so there are lots to choose from.

Bryson DeChambeau – PointsBet Odds +900

4 Starts | 4 Cuts Made | 0 Wins | 0 Top 10s
The reigning U.S. Open champion struggled with physical issues in November at Augusta. Expect those issues to be rectified and look for a highly motivated Bryson to impose his will on the golf course. This is the tournament DeChambeau wants the most.

Rory has only missed the cut once in 12 starts at the Masters, including 10 Top 25s. However, he’s yet to win a green jacket and that pressure only escalates year after year. McIlroy’s remarkable consistency has provided him plenty of chances to win and he should continue to be a force now at 31 years old.

Dustin Johnson – PointsBet Odds +700

10 Starts | 9 Cuts Made | 1 Wins | 5 Top 10s
Dustin Johnson’s triumph last November was a monumental achievement, even for a guy who is a shoe-in for the hall of fame. Johnson dominated the field and played the golf course with calm, power and precision. Considering his victory was just five months ago, it’s hard to bet against the defending champion and the #1 player in the world

Phil Mickelson – PointsBet Odds +8000

28 Starts | 25 Cuts Made | 3 Wins
Phil finished T55 in November and he hasn’t enjoyed much success recently on the PGA Tour. However, Phil has been a force on the Champions Tour and his status as an all-time great means he should still be given consideration to win another green jacket.

Brooks Koepka – PointsBet Odds +1200

5 Starts | 5 Cuts Made | 0 Wins | 2 Top 10s
Brooks Koepka underwent knee surgery on Tuesday, March 16, in California. It seems a stretch for him to recover enough in that amount of time to even walk the dramatic slopes at Augusta, let alone compete at his full potential in the event.

Although he’s yet to win the green jacket, Jason has three top 5 finishes and 7 top 25s in his 10 career starts. However, much depends on the health of Jason Day’s back and neck.
