Tournament Week at the 2017 Rust-Oleum Championship

2017-RUSTOLEUMWith terrific weather and course conditions in place, head professional Jim Sobb and the members of Ivanhoe Club welcomed the Web.com Tour golfers to their second hosting of the Rust-Oleum Championship. The Rust-Oleum Championship is the first professional tour golf event to be played this year in the Chicago area and kicks off Chicago’s 2017 summer of in-person golf viewing.

The week started on Monday with a celebrity pro-am event with retired Chicago Bears players Jay Hilgenberg, Olin Kreutz, Glen Kozlowski, Jim Thorton, and Patrick Mannelly, as the celebrity member of a pro-am team. Those former Midway Monster Bears were joined by current Chicago Blackhawk forward Ryan Hartman, former Chicago Bull Toni Kukoc, Marquette University basketball coach, Steve Wojciehowski, and NU basketball coach Chris Collins who rounded out the group of celebrity golfers.

The Tuesday festivities included the first of twelve local 2017 Illinois Drive / Chip / Putt preliminary competitions for juniors attempting to advance to the 2018 finals to be held at the Augusta National Golf Club immediately preceding next year’s Masters Tournament. The Illinois Section PGA administered the tests of driving, chipping, and putting for ninety boys and girls who were entered across four age divisions. Web.com tour players Paul Barjon and Michael Gellerman took time to encourage the juniors and pose for pictures with them.

A Wednesday pro-am tournament consisting of 52 professionals and more than 150 amateurs filled the Ivanhoe course for the day, with proceeds benefiting Rust-Oleum Cares, The Sports Shed, Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association, Orchard Village, 12 Oaks Foundation, and Nicasa, Lake County’s behavioral health services organization.

As the tournament builds to an exciting finish, Saturday, June 10, will be Family Day at this year’s Rust-Oleum Championship, as the first 200 youngsters through the gate at Ivanhoe will receive a free t-shirt; a junior golf clinic, Kids Zone, and special concession prices round out the fun for kids and their families.

Admission to the grounds of Ivanhoe for all four days of competition for the Rust-Oleum Championship is just $20; a $10 ticket upgrade (total $30) will allow fans a seat at the 18th hole pavilion area. Juniors, ages 17 and under will be admitted free with a paid adult admission. Tickets are available online or at the gate. If you are unable to attend in person, the Golf Channel will televise the four competitive rounds live — early portion of rounds on Thursday and Friday, and final hours of rounds on Saturday and Sunday (June 8-11).
