As a tribute to McHenry County’s most beloved humanitarian and philanthropist, Chicago Golf Report presents a brief timeline highlighting the business successes and charitable endeavors of Mike Domek.

Mike’s entrepreneurial journey began with humble roots and immense ambition. In 1992, applying his strong work ethic and keen sales acumen, with just $100, he founded VIP Tour Company, and enter the ‘event ticketing industry’. This passion evolved into the creation of TicketsNow.com in 1999, an innovative online marketplace that revolutionized secondary ticket sales.

Under Mike’s leadership, TicketsNow grew exponentially, earning recognition from publications like Inc. Magazine and Crain’s Chicago Business, which named him to its prestigious “40 Under 40” list and as one of Chicago’s top entrepreneurs. His pioneering spirit led TicketsNow to become the world’s largest and most trusted online marketplace for premium event tickets, culminating in its acquisition by TicketMaster.

After the acquisition of his company in 2008 by TicketMaster, Mike continued the expansion of his family’s summer home property in Woodstock, IL. What began in 2005 as a 150-acre private family retreat blossomed into a sprawling 450-acre luxury destination – housing a 7,000 sq. ft. lodge, and featuring numerous outdoor water activities as boating, fishing, paddle boarding, and land-based areas for ATV trails, skeet shooting, and the spectacular golf course. Later additions to the property included cottages and the silo spa. (Details about exclusive golf bookings for 2025 can be obtained by emailing: Info@bhfarms.com).

Never one to rest on success, this bright and energetic entrepreneur turned attentions to philanthropy. In 2015, he established Bunker Hill Charities, with 100% of the proceeds from the private resort experience benefiting the nonprofit. Today, Bunker Hill Charities serves as a granting agency supporting community organizations and nonprofits across the northwest suburbs of Chicago, an enduring reflection of Mike’s generous spirit and commitment to giving back.

The Bunker Hill Farms golf course and luxury accommodations are a seasonal and continuous year-long attraction and are the mainstay for charitable fund raising. However, each summer Bunker Hill Farms hosts its annual charity concert, called “Rockin’ the Hill”, showcasing Mike’s passion for music by featuring top rock bands from the 1970’s on through today. Headlining the 2025 concert were Stone Temple Pilots and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mike was a loving father. He was a respected member of his community, actively involved with organizations such as the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and Big Brothers Big Sisters. His warm smile, quick wit, and unwavering support for those he cared about will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his wife, Amy; his children, Nicholas, Alex, and Matthew.

Rest in peace, Mike Domek, and long live Bunker Hill Charities.
